Privacy
Privacy Policy
Quietly Offered is an independent service created for the collector-car community and available to the broader car enthusiast community. Participation is voluntary. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information Used to Create and Secure Your Account
To create and secure an account, we use an email address or a mobile number. When you sign up by phone, we send a verification code by SMS to confirm that you control the number. When you sign up by email, we send a verification link to confirm that you control the address. Your account email address and mobile number are used for account access and security and are not displayed on placards or public vehicle profiles.
Profile and Identity Information
You may voluntarily provide a display name, region, and other profile details. You can keep your identity private. Profile information you choose to share is stored with your account and is not made public unless you choose a visibility setting that allows it.
Photos and Location Metadata
When you upload photographs to Quietly Offered, we process them to identify the vehicle, protect privacy, and build your discovery or vehicle archive. Processing may include resizing, metadata removal, license-plate detection, and plate blurring. The original photograph is stored privately and is never displayed publicly; only a privacy-protected derivative (with plates blurred and metadata stripped) is shown.
Some photographs contain embedded location metadata (GPS coordinates) recorded by the camera at the time of capture. When available, we extract this approximate location from the original file before processing strips it, and store the coordinates privately with the photo record. These coordinates are internal source metadata: they are never displayed in the app, included in public pages, sent to vehicle-identification or grouping models, or shared with other users. Location data helps us understand where discoveries occurred and may support future internal features, but precise coordinates are not made public.
You can prevent location metadata from being collected by disabling GPS tagging in your camera settings before taking photographs. Photographs without GPS metadata are processed normally — location is simply absent.
Vehicle Information You Submit
If you create a vehicle profile, you voluntarily submit information such as the year, make, model, variant, mileage, transmission, colors, photographs, stories, ownership history, and service information. You control what vehicle information is publicly visible through the visibility settings described below.
Visibility Settings — Public vs. Private Information
Each vehicle profile has visibility settings that you control. You can choose to make a vehicle visible to the public network, to limit it, or to keep it private. You can also choose whether to display owner attribution. Information you mark private is stored with your account but is not shown on public vehicle profiles or placards.
Information Generated Through Use
When you use the service, we collect information generated by your activity, including device type, browser, and usage analytics. When a QR code on a placard is scanned, we record the scan event, which may include an approximate device category and the page visited. We use this information to understand how the service is used and to improve it.
IP Addresses and Approximate Geolocation
When a QR code is scanned, we may use the scanner's IP address to determine an approximate geographic region (such as a country or state) for analytics. We use a third-party service (ipapi.co) for this approximate lookup. We do not use this information to identify or contact individual visitors, and we do not display precise locations publicly.
How We Use Information
- To create, secure, and authenticate your account.
- To display the vehicle profiles and placards you choose to make public.
- To generate QR codes and track aggregate scan activity.
- To send verification codes, verification emails, and service notifications.
- To operate, secure, improve, and support the service.
- To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.
We Do Not Sell Your Information
Quietly Offered does not sell personal or vehicle information.
Service Providers
We use the following service providers to help operate the service. These providers process information on our behalf to deliver the service. We do not sell information to them.
- Base44 — hosting and application infrastructure.
- Twilio — SMS authentication (verification codes).
- Resend — email delivery (verification and notification emails).
- Google Analytics — aggregate usage analytics.
- Google Vision and Plate Recognizer — image and license-plate processing to help protect privacy in photographs.
- ipapi.co — approximate IP geolocation associated with QR scan analytics.
Data Retention
We retain your account and vehicle information for as long as your account is active or as needed to operate the service. We do not currently apply a fixed deletion schedule to all records. You can request deletion of your account or personal data at any time through the Contact page, and we will process verified requests as described below.
Editing and Removing Vehicle Profiles
You can edit or remove individual vehicle profiles at any time through your dashboard. Removing a vehicle profile takes it off public surfaces. A self-service account-deletion function is not yet available; until it is implemented, you can request account or personal-data deletion through the Contact page.
Requesting Account or Data Deletion
To request deletion of your account or personal data, use the Contact page and select "Privacy or data request" as the category. We will verify your identity before processing a deletion request. We may retain certain information where required for legal obligations, security, or fraud prevention.
Security Safeguards
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Account access requires a verified email address or mobile number. Public vehicle profiles do not display your account email address, mobile number, session tokens, or internal user identifiers. Owner attribution is gated so that non-connected visitors see only "Private Collector" rather than your full identity. We do not claim formal security certifications, penetration testing, end-to-end encryption, or regulatory compliance.
Children and Minimum Age
The service is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date and last-updated date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
